The 60th IWCS (the International Wire & Cable Symposium and Conference) Event was held in Charlotte, North Carolina in USA during November 6 to 9. As the premier technology event in the global cables industry, more than 500 representatives all over the world from Fiber, Wire and Optical Cables, equipment suppliers, network operators and institutions showed up in the Event.

As the leading enterprise in optical fiber and cable industry from China, FiberHome was invited to showcase the commercialized product and the cutting-edge of technologies on optical fiber and cable, and four technical papers were marked as the unique Chinese manufacture with the most numbers of papers adopted by this session of IWCS.

In the demonstration of the commercialized product technology, the Mini Air-blowing Cable (MAC), OM3 multimode optical fiber and Optical Fiber Composite Low-Voltage Cable (OPLC) were highly commended by international counterparts. Among those, the MAC product with the advantages of stable and reliable in structure, easy to be identified and distributed, facilitated to be connected and constructed. By the means of miniature tube system to access to the broadband subscribers, the expenditure on infrastructure of cable router and access cost can be significantly cut down by fully utilizing the existing municipal infrastructure (roads, gas channel and sewer). This new technology is developed under the support of “indoors wiring optical cable and key access technology” project in 973 national Program of China, and represents the social development trend on resource saving and environment friendly. Furthermore, it has been widely applied to the broadband FTTH network and has been outputting great economic benefit.

Meanwhile, FiberHome’s Photonic Crystal Fiber also aroused interests from international counterparts and scholars. Researching it as one project of 973 National Programs, FiberHome developed a complete set of techniques for photonic crystal fiber with fully innovated IPR. Besides these, some other new and top technologies such as FTTH microstructure fiber, high non-linear photonic crystal fiber, ytterbium doped photonic crystal fiber and Erbium doped photonic crystal fiber, etc. are also showcased.

Ning-han Optical Fiber Cable, which is the cable provided by FiberHome and deployed in China’s first fiber backbone project 22 years ago for China Telecom, was analyzed by these two parties recently, and the research result revealed in IWCS evokes huge interests from the global counterparts, and proved the great value and significance on the lifetime of optical fiber cable.

During the conference, representatives analyzed the contemporary international economic situations and indicated the uncertainty on the schedule of the global economy stepping out from the difficulties of Greece’s debt crisis, and it may affect the development of the optical fiber and cable industry. It is estimated the growth of global optical cable industry will be slowed down to 5% in 2012, rather than the 9% in 2011, with the total demand on optical fibers around 210 million core kilometers all over the world.
